Three-Mile Swim!
Yes, I just returned from a three-mile tempo swim. It was supposed to be somewhere in the neighborhood of a 10-mile LSD, but that was assuming that I’d be heading out into air instead of water. Early on I figured it was time to trade it for Wednesday's tempo and come back later in the week for the LSD.
What the hell am I talking about, you ask?
It’s damn humid out here. 7:00 in the morning and the backs of my hands were even shiny and wet. I was absolutely drenched, down to my socks, by the second mile. But the good news, aside from the sweat pouring into my eyes and the immediate onset blindness that resulted for lack of a sweatband, I really had no other problems. No cramps, no breathing trouble, none of the things that immediately fall out of the sky on me once the humidity hits. I think that I must have been vaccinated by that three-and-a-half miler through the soup at SEBA #1.
Ah, so that’s the trick then, little doses.

Hey, girl, when did you move to Houston? ;-)
It was soup here too, yesterday. I just keep teeling myself how great it is for my complexion...
I feel your pain! I'm trying to go out at 5 am but it's 80 in the morning here. I gave up today and am going to the Y for a swim run brick.
I keep reminding myself it's going to be 20 below in 6 months-but that doesn't help.
Wil,
When I leave the gym my shirt has maybe a 3 inch dry ring at the bottom from the sweat. I have to take it off before getting into my truck. Having grown up in the Mid-west I know how it is in the summer, and I would pick the 115 degree heat over the 90% humidity any day.
Keep at it, Wil! I just went through a week of ugly, hot, nasty weather. If you can tough it out for a few days, I think the blood thickens up and it gets better. And remember to drink... a LOT!
I hear ya ... humidity is evil. Today the humidex was at 93% ... it's like running in a sauna, even walking was difficult. Good for you for getting out there.
You are one tough little cookie, woman!
Once again, you make me GRIN.
Thanks.
...and please keep that nasty humidity east of the 100th meridian where it's suppos'd be!
We western weenies melt pretty fast at anything over 40%.
Okay, I guess I've not been a triathlete long enough, but when I saw LSD I could only think of the drug, and was wondering why Wil would be doing acid trips while swimming.
