50 Things
1. I sleep with my socks on. In fact, I always wear socks, all the time, ever since I was a kid. Yeah, really, except in the shower or swimming. Always.
2. At 19, I acidentally ran off the road and crashed my one-day-old, newly-painted 1963 Pontiac into the river and totaled it.
3. I was an archaeology major for a long time, and switched at the last minute to pursue a different life.
4. I’ve been close to death exactly four times in my life, see #2 for one of the incidents.
5. When I can’t find wood, I knock on paper because it used to be wood.
6. I’m a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
7. My favorite color is red.
8. I speak, read and write three languages, English, Spanish, and Portuguese – and enough Italian to get myself into and out of trouble.
9. My favorite authors are Ernest Hemingway and Fernando Pessoa.
10. I sleep with a notebook, flashlight, and pen next to my bed.
11. When I wear nail polish, it has to be all the way on or all the way off. Chips drive me insane.
12. I've broken two bones in my life, my left big toe - see #6, and my right middle toe - Ironman 2006 swim.
13. I’ve had two concussions in my life. See #6.
14. I gave up Brazilian jiu-jitsu to pursue the kinder and gentler sport of triathlon, and found myself surprisingly well-prepared for the open water swims.
15. I’m obsessed with white, straight teeth.
16. I’ve never worn braces; some dentist must have praised my brushing or something as a kid to lead to #15. Thanks, Mom.
17. I have the uncanny ability to injure myself in the most embarrassing ways.
18. I have a younger sister and a younger brother who rock, and two much older half-sisters (+ 15 and 17 years), who I don’t claim, don't really know, but secretly wonder about.
19. My favorite song of all time is still the sappy knight in shining armor song I loved when I was 14 – Glory of Love, by Peter Cetera.
20. I like to play in the dirt, get dirty in general. Probably why the bike and all of its fiddling is my favorite part of triathlon.
21. I’m a sucker for powerful writing and superbly smart-asstic commentary.
22. I am relentless. This is a good thing and a bad thing - depending on who you ask.
23. I like cats as long as they are not physically present.
24. I’m allergic to cats, but that’s not really why I only like them if they’re not physically present.
25. Antiques creep me out.
26. I collect Barbie dolls from around the world, and have over 100 so far that have never been out of their boxes. Half of them are older than me.
27. I have a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education, and another in Language Education.
28. I’m writing a book and am halfway finished.
29. I'm lactose intolerant.
30. I can find something beautiful in anything or anyone no matter how bad, and usually do after I cuss it/them out utilizing the skills from #8.
31. Takes a bit to set it off, but I have a hot temper. H-O-T. LOL at my own inside joke.
32. I like epic and action movies/stories over all other genres.
33. I once actually uttered the phrase, "What do shock absorbers do? Do they absorb shock?"
34. I am a natural brunette.
35. I could strategize a way to have won the Viet Nam war, but am absolutely incapable of picking out nail polish in under an hour.
36. I find tidal waves utterly fascinating.
37. I have an odd appreciation for strong, well-shaped hands, forearms and feet.
38. I was never really into typical "jocks", bring me the strong loner type any day.
39. I have a different perfume scent for each season of the year.
40. Latin music and Latin dancing are more than just music and dancing to me.
41. The first thing I ever cooked was grilled cheese, and I had to call my mom while I was babysitting to ask her how to do it.
42. I find spider plants, and big, bushy grass plants disturbing on a very fundamental level - I called them bush-monsters once, and my husband still gives me no end of hell.
43. I like military history/strategy, survival stories, and epic take over the world games like Risk, as well as westerns and Kurosawa samurai movies.
44. I put M&Ms in my popcorn.
45. One of my favorite memories is getting dropped in the middle of nowhere with my classmates as an undergraduate while on an archaeological dig, and having to find my way back to camp some five miles away. Incidentally, this led to one of the #4 incidents!
46. I think accents are sexy.
47. I believe we are responsible for making our own happiness.
48. My favorite flowers are lilacs and lipstick roses (yellow with red edges - they look like fire).
49. My favorite classical music piece is Fur Elise.
50. I'm hyper allergic to bug bites. A mosquito bite will turn into a raised welt the size of a half-dollar that will stay there for a good few days. I am thus the infamous and legendary grim reaper of all mosquitos everywhere.

I laughed so hard at some of these...#33 is totally my favorite. It reminded me of the time I asked my husband how long the 30 hour famine was;)
Funny girl
I think I'm in love with you.
accents ARE sexy...there IS more to latin music/dancing than just music/dancing...i'm not sure but i'd be willing to bet shock absorbers DO absorb shock... i knock on my head when i can't find wood...and the strong silent artist type's are hot!
Thats fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to do that.
Well, I already published my post and now you're it and so you'll have to come up with 5 more. If you haven't been tagged then you'll have to check out the rules on my last post.
That was great! Funny, revealing, entertaining...thank you!
For some reason, I only wear socks to bed when I'm sick - that's how it's been since I was a little kid. When I read #1, I got all chilled and achy all of a sudden. :)
Nice list Wil. As open and sharing as your posts are, it's hard to believe there were 50 things we didn't know about you.... I think I already knew about 5 of these. So, good thing you were tagged by Stronger and will have to come up with 5 more! :)
BTW, chocolate and popcorn together... heaven!
Chocolate and popcorn?? U are weird....W E I R D
maybe this explain your love for tri.... :)
Well, you inspired me to write part of my list. Not as fun or interesting as yours though.
M&Ms and Popcorn, hmm, I'll have to try that.
Okolo
Number 50... wow! :)
wow that is some deep insite into your life, thanks for sharing.
I agree with Phil...#50 just rocks.
great list! this makes me start thinking about myself...
Don't you ever wear Flip-Flops??? (we live in them here...almost year round). And they don't work too well with socks! Maybe you have the "Big Lebowski" type of rubber footwear.
Brave of you to share...
Don't know that I will! Or if anyone would ever be interested! (But gave me food for thought!)
that was GREAT! Although I have to figure out a way to like you again after finding out you like a Peter Cetera song. I dunno. It's gonna be hard but there's so much else to like about you.
Maybe if you write the other 50 things I'll put it behind me. ;)
I can relate to #26... I just haven't gotten around to getting up that early. 8-0
#37 is curious to me. You should expound on that a little more... or should I even ask you to? ;-)
I totally agree with #50. We are who we are today, because of all the things (good and bad) that we've been through thus far.
Debbie Ford explains it well in her book, "The Secret of the Shadow."
#4 - You need to stop that $hit. ;-)
All of your other idiosyncrasies, just make you more adorable. Your husband is a lucky man... and we are lucky to have your blog. Thank you.
What I want to know is, what is your MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) ?
So many things. First I do milk duds in my popcorn. BB in BJJ..right on. Hablo espanol y quiero aprender italiano y portuguese, love to dance salsa, merengue, still working on bachata. Love that song, from Karate Kid, and I loved the girl too. You rock.
