So....Intervals

If you'd have told me a month ago I could get my out of shape butt to hold sub nine-minute miles, I'd have advised you not to get caught with your wacky weed. But today... oh man all I can say is just get comfortable because I'm SO going to go infomercial on you right now:

One month ago today 10-minute-miles were KILLING me, and after a few weeks of interval work (courtesy of Sister Sara's interval laden training plans), today not only am I down seven pounds, but I ran four miles as part of Operation Grand Rapids 26.2 with the following splits: 9:56, 9:32, 8:57 and 8:43.

Whhaaaat is up with that? I didn't even feel one little bit like ass! How is that even possible in just under a month's time?

Tell you what, I've done a lot of races from 10K all the way up to Ironman, and I've never seen improvement happen THIS quickly. Here's to hoping the only other shoe I hear drop is the one I kick off after my six miles of sub-10s this weekend...BOOYA!

And a side benefit of adding intensity to the mix is that it helps the weight loss as well.

All good stuff!

Shannon, let me talk to Sara and see if she minds me posting some of the workouts :) Basically though, one day a week I've been running at regular pace with 1, 2 and 3-minute pick ups. And GYGO #50 is definitely on the books, it's just that it's the big 5-0 and we want to kind of do something special... and special = extra time to coordinate, etc. Thanks for thinking of us!!

Al, funny you mentioned that because I've lost 7 lbs since adding intervals! I LOVE them!!!

You've got a ton of aerobic base. Now you're just icing the cake, baby. And the icing tastes like intervals. Yummy . . .

I think that's why you're seeing such amazing improvement; you've got a great foundation that you've laid, and now you're sharpening it! Good work!
