Eeesh...

It's been a crazy run the last several months guys, but soccer season is officially over and it looks like I have a few hours of daylight to once again claim as my own. That is, except of course on Mondays.

You see, writing class is on Mondays, dear reader, and while I like the class, and like writing, I don't know how much I like the marriage of the two. I guess there are lots of reasons for that, but the main one is likely the pressure of having to produce something... it just doesn't do wonders for the creative juices, you know? I've written a few things I likely wouldn't have written otherwise, so that's good, but in the end I'm finding the class is really taking more out of me than it's giving back. Maybe I'm getting old or something, because back in the day I used to make friggin pancakes out of pressure and deadlines, sprinkle a little powdered urgency on top, maybe add a little sprig of sleep deprivation for aesthetics, and voila, breakfast! Not so much anymore though man, let me tell you what. These days I'm just trying to keep a couple things in the air at a time, and even that's tough. Definitely time to tidy up the priority list and get a new schedule in place I guess, and as tradition holds, the best place to start is with whipping myself back into some semblance of shape again.

That said, understand that yes, I've lost some weight, but I probably couldn't run three miles right now without praying for a car to come and put me out of my misery. In addition, I dare say ALL the strength I gained from kettlebell training is now officially just as gone as Kayne West's hopes of ever selling another album, and why?? Because of being busy and not making time to train or eat right lately, which translates roughly to cannibalized muscle, which translates roughly to... well, just picture that episode of Spongebob where he's bench pressing teddy bears, and yeah there you go. Ugh. I seriously gotta fix this.

So, talk to me about P 90 X or whatever it's called? I know I've way missed the fad bus on this, but I've been off in my own little orbit for a while, as you know. Time to land and get something in place though before the snow comes and all I want to do is sleep.

Omg... snow...

Thanks, RG!

FE Lady, as long as I'm not a crotchety old hen who tries to make everyone else miserable, I'm sure I'll be swell :)

P90X rocks, but it will kick your backside. I'm going to be starting it up again soon after many months away from strength training (IM training took priority). Anyhoo, I find that I can't jump right into P90X. I'll start with 2-4 weeks of general strength training prior to starting P90X. For this "refresher course" in lifting I always fall back to the "Body For Life" training regimen. It's simple, doesn't take a lot of time and works all the major muscle groups. After the 2-4 weeks, I'll start my early morning dates with Tony & his crew on the DVD player.

Tribassett - thanks, I noticed the P90X stuff has several different DVDs, which ones do you recommend?

The whole 90 day program consists of 12 different DVDs, with a variety of strength and cardio workouts. You go through three phases, 30 days each. At the end of each 30 day period, you change to a new set of different variations on each of the exercises. A typical week in phase one has you you do chest & back (push-ups and pull ups) on day 1, plyometrics day 2, Shoulders/Arms day 3, Yoga day 4, legs/back day 5 kenpo day 6 and stretching day 7. On the strength days you can add in core work as well. All of the videos show work with free weights, with bands and with 'alternate' moves if you lack strength in a particular area (I suck at pull ups). After the 30 days, you switch to a different set of DVDs, and go through the next cycle. The workouts are all between 60 and 90 min, but the are killers. I came out of EACH of them sweating like a pig, and that was in my unheated basement in NJ in January! Good stuff!. The program book also includes different cycles if you are focusing on losing weight. I just stuck with the regular program.

I may sound like an advertisement, but I do NOT sell this program. I'm just a happy customer. I highly recommend the program. Worth every penny....

I'll second P90X. It's a good set of vids. It will kick your ass, but only if you bring it :-)

Yup I agree with everyone as well, P90X is tough and will kick your butt but thats what its all about. I tried doing it with some early 70.3 training in the spring and it totally wiped me out, so I had to back off it.
Pancakes.. humm, making me hungry! haha! and ohh, that weight you lost, Thanks! I seemed to have picked it up after my Ultra training stopped, just what I needed for IMCZ! ughh..

rockon`

Yes, P90X is a great, balanced workout that will kick your butt! Like JohnnyTri, I tried to mix it with training for my oly tri and it exhausted me. Now in the off season, I'm getting back into it. It is great base training.

I will 3rd the P90X comments. I'm on week 6 and I can tell a huge improvement in my running (although I'm not focusing on anything BUT the P90X right now). I want to head in to the next tri season stronger and a lot leaner. I'm doing the Classic version right now. Kicks butt!!!!!

It's tough....you will sweat... but you will feel great!!

Anonymous #1: I hadn't planned on formally running the THROUGH TH3 WALL Challenge again this year, mainly because I just don't have time right now to keep up with it. The software is all still in place thanks to the mad skills of my comrade, Superhero Ben, so feel free to still use everything. I don't know if it'll all still be there next year or not, but if not the Buckeye Outdoors Platform is the parent for the Challenge, so you'll be able to use that :)
